The 24th meeting of the SBSTTA of the CBD will be held from the 3rd of May – 9th of June 2021 in Quebec City, Canada. First plenary, 3-4 May; Second Plenary, 23-26 May; Third plenary, 7-9 June (adjournment).
SBSTTA 24 will take place in conjunction with the third meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI) of the CBD.
The Subsidiary Body was established under Article 25 of the Convention on Biological Diversity. In addition, the Nagoya Protocol, in its Article 27, provides that any subsidiary body established by or under the Convention may serve the Nagoya Protocol. Similarly, the Cartagena Protocol, in its Article 30, provides that any subsidiary body established by or under the Convention may serve the Protocol, upon a decision by the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol.
