Organised by the Government of Jalisco, the event will take place virtually on 20 August at 10:00 (Mexico time).

The event aims to analyze the post-COVID-19 recovery processes at the global level under the framework of planetary limits. Examining the most effective post-COVID-19 recovery strategies in Mexico and Latin America, based on recent international reports the event will identify cases and effective actions that are intended to mitigate the effects of the pandemic and reverse the economic debacle of sustainable and climate-smart way, applicable for subnational governments.

Structured as a high-level discussion, the debate will center around the following questions from a perspective of environmental policy:

  • How to avoid returning to the Business-As-Usual approach in a post-pandemic scenario?
  • What lessons can we learn from the evidence reflected in the most recent reports for Latin America of recovery post-COVID-19?
  • Does the post-COVID-19 scenario represent a better context for the development of sustainable development policies at the subnational level?
  • How to generate innovations in environmental policy post-COVID-19, in order to achieve a green recovery under the planetary limits approach at the subnational level?
