The Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals are the foundations for global efforts to address climate change. The purpose of the 2019 Climate Summit is to challenge states, regions, cities, companies, investors and citizens to step up action in six areas:

The United Nations Climate Summit will take place on 23 September, 2019 in New York under the theme “A race we can win, to raise the global level of ambition to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and to galvanise action that can limit climate change to 2°C and even 1.5°C. The Summit will serve as a public platform for only leaders – Member States, as well as leaders in finance, business, civil society, and local leaders from both the public and private sector – to present concrete, realistic plans to enhance NDCs.

To boost ambition and accelerate action to implement the Paris Agreement, the Climate Action Summit will focus on nine interdependent tracks, which will be led by 19 countries in total and supported by international organisations:

  • Industry Transition
  • Nature-Based Solutions
