September is just around the corner and it will be a busy month with major events and important dates for the international community regarding the global sustainability agenda.

In this context, the 9th Indonesian Climate Forum & Expo will be held in Medan on 5 – 8 September 2019, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Environmental Agency of Sumatera Utara.

The event is meant to be a contribution for the acceleration of the actions towards sustainable development in Asia and will present a comprehensive programme focused on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) implementation, commitments and progress made since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and more specifically, climate actions, challenges and opportunities for Indonesia.

It is widely recognised that subnational governments hold the potential to enhance NDCs activities and their implementation. They often have specific responsibilities in fields of climate action that directly influence emissions reduction and adaptation efforts, among others, and are able to connect the reality and needs of their constituents to the national and global levels, through a territorial approach.

Regions4 will be able to raise the voice of regional governments at this event, through the participation of the Secretariat in an event led by the Government of North Sumatra, Vice President for Asia at Regions4. Taking place within the Climate Corner of the 9th ICFE on 5 September, the event “Save Mangrove, Save our House” will serve as an opportunity for capacity building and experience exchange regarding the role of the regional governments to lead sustainable development acceleration actions, ahead of the UN Climate Action Summit and the SDG Summit to be held in New York in late September. This event will be a great occasion for networking, knowledge exchange and promotion of further collaboration at the regional level in a global context.
