The Race to Zero is a global campaign with the overarching objective of mobilizing all actors towards net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest. Convened on 9-19 November 2020 by the High-level Champions, Nigel Topping and Gonzalo Muñoz, in close collaboration with the Marrakech Partnership, the Dialogues will showcase support for the main actions required to start on our transformation pathways.

The Climate Action Pathways outline the longer-term vision for a 1.5-degree climate-resilient world and sets out sector-specific plans and actions that will unlock the systems transformations required to achieve that future. These pathways should be considered as the “lanes” of the racetrack in the Race to Zero, with each sector running its own lane with its own opportunities and challenges, so that, together, we can reach the finish line.

The objective of the Dialogues is to build momentum around the shift to a decarbonized economy ahead of COP26 in 2021, where governments must strengthen their commitments and contributions to the Paris Agreement. This will send the message that cities, regions, businesses and other actors are united in meeting the Paris goals and creating a more inclusive and resilient economy.

Each virtual dialogue is organized by a key partner, under an umbrella programme curated by the High-Level Champions. Regions4 is supporting the Race to Zero co-organising the following sessions:

Building a Climate Resilient and Just Future for all: knowledge and voices from the frontline – 16 November, 7:00-9:00 am UTC

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed how the more marginalised and poorest populations are hit the hardest. The same is true for climate change impacts. This dialogue will look at how lessons from COVID can be used to raise ambition and empower communities to build resilience to the risks of climate change.
